NEET 2027 Exam Pattern: Questions, Marking Scheme and Timing
NEET went back to its classic format in 2025: 180 compulsory questions, 720 marks, 3 hours, no optional section. NEET 2026 used the same pattern, and NEET 2027 is expected to as well. Here is the full structure and what it means for how you should practise.

The real constraint: one minute per question
180 questions in 180 minutes sounds like a minute each, but Biology questions take 30 to 40 seconds while Physics numericals can take two minutes. The standard approach: clear Biology first in about 45 to 50 minutes, then Chemistry, then give Physics the longest open stretch. Build this order into every full mock you take.
This is also why OMR practice matters. Bubbling 180 answers cleanly takes 8 to 10 minutes, and a single misaligned row can wreck a paper. Our mock tests follow the exact 180 question pattern with the same timer, so the real exam feels like one more Sunday test.
What a good score looks like
Out of 720, recent years suggest rough bands: crossing 600 puts you in contention for government MBBS seats in most states, 650 plus is a strong general category position, and the qualifying cut off (just to pass) has sat far lower, around 140 to 165. For how cut offs translate into colleges, read the NEET cut off guide.
Strategy follows the pattern: Biology is half the marks and the most predictable, so it is your score floor. Physics has the highest variance, so it is where ranks separate. Plan your year accordingly with the NEET 2027 study plan.
